West Lafayette is located in north-central Indiana - just an hour from Indianapolis to the southeast and two hours from Chicago to the northwest (Longitude: 86 52' W, Latitude: 40 21', Elevation: 60 ft.). Sixty-five percent of the country is within a day's drive.
Based on the 2000 census, West Lafayette's population is 28,778.
West Lafayette enjoys an exceptionally low crime rate for a city its size and has well-equipped and staffed police, fire and street and sanitation departments.
West Lafayette and Purdue University have collaboratively built an innovative, knowledge-based local economy that is growing, evolving and expanding with the times.
