InfoSenator Gary L. Hooser is a man who has lived, worked, and raised his family on Kaua‘i. A man who understands and cares about the issues you care about. A Kaua‘i Democrat with traditional values, he has the kind of life and work experience that makes him an effective voice and an energetic advocate for the residents of Kaua‘i and all of the people of Hawai‘i.

Born January 19, 1954, and married to Claudette; father of Dylan and Kelli-Rose, Senator Hooser graduated from Radford High School and then the Hawai‘i Entrepreneur Training and Development Institute. He is also a graduate of Kaua‘i Community College and the University of Hawai‘i, West O‘ahu with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration.

A third term State Senator, he previously also served two terms on the Kaua‘i County Council. He has lived through two hurricanes, survived the challenges of running a small business, and been recognized for his business achievements by the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Kapa‘a and the U.S. Small Business Administration, who named him Small Business Media Advocate of the Year for Kaua‘i. Senator Hooser has been active in the community for many years serving in a variety of capacities for numerous community organizations. In the Hawai‘i State Senate, he currently serves as the Senate Majority Leader and is also a member of the Energy and Environment Committee and a member of the Ways and Means Committee. He previously Co-Chaired the Senate Affordable Housing Task Force.
