Info | Morrison H. Caldwell - attorney and historian in Concord NC.
Caldwell was born on 8/23/1860 near Harrisburg NC. His father Robert M. Caldwell served in the Confederate Army and died in the Battle of Chancellorsville. Thereafter, his mother Eleanor H. Caldwell moved to Davidson, where Morrison H. Caldwell grew up.
Caldwell attended Davidson College and the University of Virginia. He was admitted to the bar in 1884. He practiced law in New York City for a few years and then served as President of the Randolph and Cumberland Railroad, with his office at Carthage NC. He relocated to Concord in 1912.
Caldwell served as prosecuting attorney for Cabarrus County for eight years and then judge of the recorder's court for two years.
Caldwell was the preeminent historian of Cabarrus County and was mostly finished with a manuscript history of the county at the time of his death.
Caldwell's health declined in the 1920s, and he became an invalid in 1929.
At the time of his death on 5/24/1934, Caldwell was the longest serving member of the bar in Cabarrus County.
