| Info | BARTLETT, Ichabod, a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Salisbury, N.H., July 24, 1786; received a classical education and was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1808; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1811 and commenced practice in Durham, Strafford County, N.H.; moved to Portsmouth in 1816 and continued the practice of law; clerk of the State senate in 1817 and 1818; State solicitor for Rockingham County 1819-1821; member of the State house of representatives 1819-1821; served as speaker in 1821; elected as a Adams-Clay Republican to the Eighteenth and as an Adams to the Nineteenth, and Twentieth Congresses (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1829); declined the appointment as chief justice of the court of common pleas in 1825; again a member of the State house of representatives 1830, 1838, 1851, and 1852; unsuccessful candidate for Governor in 1832; member of the State constitutional convention in 1850; died in Portsmouth, N.H., October 19, 1853; interment in Harmony Grove Cemetery.
