Info | Junius H. Harden - innovative businessman who played a major role in the development of the City of Burlington, North Carolina, and a Republican nominee for U.S. House in 1928.
Harden's role in the history of Burlington was unequalled. He established the first electric light and power plant there and opened the Alamance Railway Company to offer trolley service. He helped open the hospital and helped to re-organize the Holt Granite Mills when it nearly failed. He helped to get a rayon factory established in Burlington. As the owner of a textile mill, he installed the first telephone in the county to service the mill. He also owned the first bicycle in the county as well as the first pair of roller skates. A member of the committee that identified the location for Elon College, he was the final surviving member of the original board of trustees.
