Info | It seems like the only two names the national press mentions when they talk about the California gubernatorial race (besides those of Arnold and Cruz Bustamante) are those of ''Diff'rent Strokes'' star Gary Coleman and adult film actress Mary Carey. But what about Mathilda Spak? According to the Chicago Tribune, Spak, who retired to Long Beach from Chicago four decades ago and will turn 101 years old before Election Day on Oct. 7, 2003, may well be the most experienced candidate in the entire race. A native of Wilmette, Spak graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in business in the 1920s. (According to the Tribune, Spak "said she couldn't recollect the precise year and didn't want to dig out her diploma.") Up to now, Spak's only political activity has been to vote, which she has done in every election in which she has been eligible. (Hey, don't laugh! Just remember that the name "Mathilde" in German is supposed to mean "Mighty in Battle," so Arnold may have to put his Terminator suit back on again...)
