InfoThomas M. McMahon, is mayor of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania. Born in Rochester , New York, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Science degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University , also completing a minor in political science.

After graduation, Mr. McMahon served as a teacher and team leader for the Peace Corps Irrigation Project on the Ganges in Bangladesh . He was employed as an engineer and chief electrical engineer and administrator for Gilbert Associates, Reading, from 1965 until 1980. He was the founder and chief executive officer of Entech Engineering, Reading.

Mr. McMahon has been active in a number of community and civic organizations. He has served as a board member for the Berks Human Relations Council, Berks Community Television, Berks County Community Foundation, and the Berks County Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as a board member and chair of the St. Joseph Medical Center and as vice chair of the Alvernia College Board of Trustees. He is founder of a program matching inner-city youth with

adult mentors, cofounder of the Berks Minority Business Development Council, and organizer of a two-day event for planners, architects and engineers to promote Reading riverfront development.

For his work, Mr. McMahon has received the Central Pennsylvania

Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the World Affairs Council’s International

Citizen of the Year Award, the Small Business Person of the Year Award from the Berks County Chamber of Commerce, the Sister Walburga Borgman Award from St. Joseph Medical Center, and an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Alvernia College.

Mayor McMahon is the proud father of three daughters and one grandson.
