Info | LAMBETH, John Walter, a Representative from North Carolina; born in Thomasville, Davidson County, N.C., January 10, 1896; attended the public schools; was graduated from Trinity College (now Duke University), Durham, N.C., in 1916, and later attended Harvard University; during the First World War entered the Army on January 15, 1918, serving overseas as a sergeant and was discharged July 26, 1919; engaged in the manufacture of furniture 1919-1930; also interested in banking; member of the State senate in 1921; mayor of Thomasville, N.C., 1925-1929; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1931-January 3, 1939); was not a candidate for renomination in 1938; died in Washington, D.C., January 12, 1961; interment in City Cemetery, Thomasville, N.C.
