Info | LYMAN, Samuel, a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Goshen, Conn., January 25, 1749; attended Goshen Academy; was graduated from Yale College in 1770; taught school; studied law in Litchfield, Conn.; was admitted to the bar in 1773 and commenced practice in Hartford, Conn.; moved to Springfield, Mass., in 1784; member of the State house of representatives 1786-1788; served in the State senate 1790-1793; justice of the court of common pleas of Hampshire County 1791-1800; elected as a Federalist to the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Congresses and served from March 4, 1795, until November 6, 1800, when he resigned; died in Springfield, Mass., June 5, 1802; interment in Goshen, Conn.
