InfoHENDRICKSON, Robert Clymer, a Senator from New Jersey; born in Woodbury, Gloucester County, N.J., August 12, 1898; attended public schools; during the First World War enlisted in the United States Army in 1918 and served overseas; graduated from Temple University Law School, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1922, admitted to the New Jersey bar, and commenced practice in Woodbury, N.J.; county supervisor 1929-1934; city solicitor of Woodbury 1931; State senator 1934-1940, serving as president of the senate in 1939; unsuccessful Republican nominee for Governor in 1940; State treasurer 1942-1948; member of board of managers, Council of State Governments, in 1940 and chairman in 1941; vice chairman of Commission on Delaware River Basin 1936-1951; during the Second World War enlisted in 1943, commissioned a major, served with the American Military Government in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1944, and separated from the service in 1946; called back into active duty in 1951; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1948, and served from January 3, 1949, to January 2, 1955; was not a candidate for renomination in 1954; appointed Ambassador to New Zealand by President Dwight Eisenhower 1955-1956; lawyer; was a resident of Woodbury, N.J., until his death December 7, 1964; interment in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, N.J.
