InfoHis career in the State Senate has been marked in achievement. He was first elected in 1994. Ballantine quickly rose through the ranks, being elected the Senate Republican Leader in 1998 and re-elected unanimously in 2000 and 2002. Under his leadership the number of Republicans has increased from 11 to 22.

In the Senate, Ballantine has been challenged by a Democratic Governor and Senate whose tax and spend policies were often at odds with his conservative principles. Yet he has stood up for North Carolina taxpayers. He introduced a bill that would repeal the capital gains tax and create jobs and help businesses grow and prosper. Ballantine also co-sponsored tort reform legislation that would help curb runaway lawsuits and rein in renegade trial lawyers, helping to provide quality, affordable health care for North Carolinians.

When not tending to his Senate duties, Ballantine is an attorney practicing law with the firm of Lineberry, White, Hearne & Ballantine, L.L.P., concentrating in Real Property Law, Civil Litigation, Business Law, Entertainment Law, Construction Law, and Collections Law. Patrick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in political science, and he received his law degree from the University of Dayton.
