InfoROBERTSON, Thomas Bolling, (brother of John Robertson), a Representative from Louisiana; born at “Bellefield,” near Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Va., February 27, 1779; was graduated from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1806 and commenced practice in Petersburg, Va.; moved to the Territory of Orleans in 1807; appointed by President Jefferson secretary of the Territory of Louisiana and served from 1807 to 1811; upon the admission of the Territory into the Union as the State of Louisiana, was elected as a Republican to the Twelfth and to the three succeeding Congresses and served from April 30, 1812, to April 20, 1818, when he resigned; chairman, Committee on Public Lands (Fourteenth and Fifteenth Congresses); Governor of Louisiana from December 18, 1820, until his resignation on November 15, 1822; attorney general of Louisiana in 1822; judge of the United States Court for the District of Louisiana 1825-1827; returned to Petersburg, Va.; died at White Sulphur Springs, Va. (now West Virginia), October 5, 1828; interment in Copeland Hill Cemetery.
