Info | born in Detroit, Mich., December 7, 1869; attended the public schools and was graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1891; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced practice in Detroit in 1893; assistant city attorney 1894-1897; member of the board of aldermen 1902-1904; mayor of Detroit in 1905 and 1906; unsuccessful candidate for reelection; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1908; circuit judge of Wayne County 1911-1921; regent of the University of Michigan in 1910 and 1911; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1921-March 3, 1923); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1922; resumed the practice of law; again elected circuit judge of Wayne County in 1924 and served until his death in Detroit, Mich., on February 16, 1927; interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
