Georgia Senate Biography:
Senator Bart Ladd, a Republican from Doraville, was elected to the state senate in 1998 after serving eight years in the Georgia House of Representatives. He represents the 41st senatorial district.
He serves on the Senate Corrections, Correctional Institutions and Property; Finance and Public Utilities; Retirement; and Special Judiciary committees.
While serving in the House, Ladd created the Homestead Option Sales Tax (HOST), which has been put into effect in DeKalb County. HOST lowers DeKalb's property taxes to the lowest in the state, while guaranteeing a constant source of funding for county infrastructure improvements.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 18, 1957, Ladd grew up in a small town in Ohio, called Milford. He graduated from Purdue University in 1979 with a degree mechanical engineering. After completing training as a U.S. Air Force pilot, he served eight years as a C-130 aircraft commander from the Pacific to the eastern edges of the NATO countries in Europe. Upon returning to Georgia in 1988, Ladd has been a Delta Airlines pilot.
Ladd coaches youth basketball teams in the Dunwoody area and has been involved in local civic groups. He is a member of the Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody.
