InfoEdward Joseph "E.J." Pipkin, Jr.

E.J. grew up in a blue collared neighborhood in Dundalk, MD - the son of a Bethlehem Steel electrician and a cafeteria worker. Now at the age of 46, E.J. is the favorite of his party in the 2004 United States Senate race.

E.J. Pipkin first entered Maryland politics in 1999 when he led the citizen's effort to ban open bay dumping in the Chesapeake Bay. Three years and countless hours later that citizen's effort culminated into successfully banning the practice of dumping dredge spoils into the open Chesapeake Bay. The ban passed 46 to 1.

The lone vote against the ban came from Senator Walter Baker, the powerful chairman of the Judicial Proceedings Committee and E.J.'s own State Senator.

In 2001, E.J. decided the upper Eastern Shore needed better representation. He ran against Senator Baker and many didn't give him much of a chance. But, one year later and hours of door knocking doors and standing on the back of pick up trucks waving at motorists, E.J. Pipkin defeated the 24 year incumbent by 24 percentage points to become State Senator from the 36th District.

E.J. ran a very intense campaign and that intensity continued as State Senator.

Since becoming Senator, E.J. has worked hard for his constituents, making sure they are well represented in Annapolis and fighting for their interests. Last year alone, E.J. successfully sponsored and passed legislation:

Creating a taskforce which will bring broadband internet to the Eastern Shore; Creating a committee which will study ways to save taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars on state procurement contracts; and, Fighting for an elected school board in Cecil County to increase local control of education.

E.J. Pipkin resides in Queen Anne's County with his wife, Alisa and their three children, Carter, Meredith, and Tyler.
