InfoFormer State Representative and Democratic Nominee for U.S. Congress Mike Hathorn is a shining star in Arkansas politics. He deeply believes that his call to public service is how he can make a difference in the lives of others. Mike served in the Arkansas Legislature from 1999 until he was term limited in 2005, where he represented the largest legislative district in the state which including all or part of Pope, Madison, Newton, Searcy and Van Buren counties. Mike was appointed Chairman of the demanding Judiciary Committee which, during the 2001 session heard debate on more bills than any other House committee. He has also served on the Rules Committee, the Committee on Agriculture and Economic Development, and Joint Budget Committee. Mike also served as an alternate member on the Energy and Legislative Joint Auditing Committees. The House of Representatives also honored Mike by electing him Vice Chairman of the Third District House Caucus, determined by a unanimous bipartisan vote of third congressional district legislators.

Mike is a graduate of the University of Arkansas where he obtained his B.A. and Law Degrees. In 1996, he worked on the Washington, D.C., staff of U.S. Senator David Pryor. In 2000, Mike was appointed by then Attorney General Mark Pryor to serve as Arkansas’ Campaign Director of Gore-Lieberman 2000.

In 2001, Hathorn ran for the 3rd U.S. Congressional seat in one of the most successful campaigns in the traditional Republican stronghold of Northwest Arkansas in over thirty years. During the campaign for Congress, Mike revitalized the Democratic Party in Northwest Arkansas while raising a record number of contributions to a Democratic candidate in the 3rd District.
