InfoDeb Matthews was elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for London North Centre in October 2003. She is the current Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community and Social Services.

Her work on social assistance reform, guided by her report, Review of Employment Assistance Programs in Ontario Works & Ontario Disability Support Program, has received strong support from a wide range of community leaders.

Her work experience is wide-ranging and includes business experience in the construction industry, fundraising in the non-profit sector, and more recently, teaching at the University of Western Ontario where she was twice awarded a place on the University Students' Council Teaching Honour Roll. Deb has recently completed her PhD thesis in social demography at the University of Western Ontario.

Deb has been involved in a wide range of community organizations and is deeply committed to healthy and vibrant communities. Deb served as board member and president of the Big Sisters of London and on the boards of Orchestra London, Thames Valley Children's Centre, the London Advisory Board for the Salvation Army and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. She was fundraising co-ordinator for the Boys and Girls Club in London.

In addition to her responsibilities as MPP and PA, Deb sits on the Community Affairs Policy Committee of Cabinet and on the Standing Committee on General Government of the Ontario Legislature. She is also immediate past President of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Deb's roots in London are strong and deep. She is a lifelong resident of London, where she raised her three children, now all in their 20s.
