Infoborn in Jackson, Teton County, Wyo., November 12, 1897; attended the public schools of Wood River, Meeteetse, and Cody; graduated from the University of Wyoming at Laramie in 1921; attended Harvard University Law School 1921-1925; during the First World War served as a second lieutenant in the Infantry, United States Army; admitted to the bar in 1926 and practiced law in Cody, Wyo., until 1955; member, State house of representatives 1926-1927; Governor of Wyoming 1955-1959; resumed law practice in 1959; appointed member of the board of trustees of University of Wyoming in 1939 and served as president 1943-1954; member of the National Association of Governing Boards of State Universities and Allied Institutions in 1950 and served as president in 1952 and 1953; elected in a special election on November 6, 1962, as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator-elect Keith Thomson in the term ending January 3, 1967; was not a candidate for reelection in 1966; lived in Cody, Wyo., until his death on June 10, 1993
