Info | Senator Roger Sherman is currently serving his first term in the Senate, and represents District 34, which encompasses southern and central Aroostook County, including Fort Fairfield, Houlton and Presque Isle. Prior to his election to the Senate, he served in the Maine House of Representatives for four terms. For the 123 rd Legislature, he will serve as a member of the Joint Standing Committees on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and Criminal Justice and Public Safety, as well as vice-chairman of the Rural Caucus.
As a representative, Senator Sherman was the vice-chairman of the Rural Caucus, and served on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety; Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; and Judiciary Committees, as well as the sub-committees on Elections, and Children and Families.
The Senator earned an undergraduate degree at Ricker College, a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire, and a doctorate from the University of Maine Law School.
As a beef farmer for 10 years, a science teacher for 29 years, and a lawyer for six years, he is fortunate to have accumulated a wide range of professional experience to draw from.
Locally, Senator Sherman is a member of the Houlton Rotary, and the vice-president of senior citizen housing. He is also the former Maine Director for the National Education Association.
Senator Sherman was born and raised in Hodgton where he now lives with his wife Patricia. They have four children; Brad, Greg, Eric and Michelle, and eight grandchildren.
