InfoGerald has been a member of the Victoria-The Lakes community for 45 years. He is married with three grown children and four grandchildren.

Gerald served as Victoria County Councillor, Deputy Warden and Warden from 1991 to 2003. He was first elected MLA in the new riding of Victoria-The Lakes in 2003.

As a community leader and volunteer, he is actively involved in diverse projects such as the creation of the Boularderie Historical Society and the establishment of two youth centres. He is a strong supporter of schools, establishing the first RCMP community office in the province located in Boularderie School, the D.A.R.E. Program as well as securing funding for a children’s karate program. He believes in fairness in student employment with the successful awarding of employment programs each year, creating summer employment for our students since 1991.

Gerald was a volunteer fire fighter for 15 years and worked to establish funding programs in support of the fire department. He believes in ‘community’ whether it is through open meetings with the public, organizing a community health fair or helping our youth and seniors. He has traveled extensively throughout the Victoria-The Lakes community fostering a solid reputation of credibility and dependability.

Gerald has a Certificate in Community Economic Development and Leadership from Atlantic CED Institute, Truro, along with a Certificate in Municipal Governing from Dalhousie University in conjunction with Henson College of Public Affairs and Continuing Education, Halifax.

Gerald attended Cape Breton University working toward a Bachelor of Arts and has been trained in several areas of management, psychology, Train the Trainer and speech communication, holding a Level Two of the Reality Therapy Psychology Program.

Gerald has owned and managed his own business for 20 years and has worked for Statistics Canada as a Census Commissioner in 1991, 1996 and 2001. He has worked for HRSDC (now Service Canada) as an Outreach Worker, for Seal Island Trucking, C.N. Marine and was an auxiliary police constable for 12 years.
