Info | Erlandson was elected Chair of the Minnesota Democratic (DFL) Party in 1999. He has been active in Minnesota politics for two decades. As DFL Chair, he leads Minnesota?s largest grassroots political party and oversees a staff of nine. He also represents Minnesota?s Democratic party on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is on the Board of the Minnesota DFL Education Foundation. In 2000 Erlandson guided the Party to one of its most successful election cycles in decades.
Erlandson, 38, is Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Martin Olav Sabo?5th District of Minnesota. He has worked for Sabo since 1987 and became Chief of Staff in 1993. He splits his time between Sabo?s Washington, D.C. and Minnesota Offices.
As Congressman Sabo?s Chief aide, he manages a staff of sixteen. Erlandson?s legislative time is dominated by Sabo?s role as a member of the House Appropriations Committee (Subcommittees on Transportation?Ranking Member, Defense and Interior). Sabo is known for his thoughtful work on government fiscal policy. Sabo also serves as on the Democratic Policy Committee.
On the light side, Erlandson (Event Manager) and Sabo (Democratic Team Manager) have turned the Annual Congressional Baseball Game into a premier charity event that has raised over $550,000 since 1993.
Erlandson has also served on the advisory committee to the University of Minnesota?s Humphrey Institute Policy Forum (96-99), on the steering committee for Minnesota?s Hennepin County Community Works project (97-98), and on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Guidestar (98-00). While a resident of the Nation?s Capitol he was active in Washington politics and was elected to represent Capitol Hill on the District of Columbia?s Advisory Neighborhood Commission (92-94). He served on the Board of the Washington Literacy Council (89-93), and as a steering committee member for the University of Minnesota?s Humphrey Institute?s study on the Environment and Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems.
Erlandson, a 1986 graduate of St. John?s University in Collegeville Minnesota, has a B.S. in Business Management. He completed Harvard?s Kennedy School?s program for Senior Managers in Government (1997). A native Minnesotan, he grew up in Fridley and attended Columbia Heights High School. With his wife, Dawn, he currently lives in South Minneapolis. He is an avid sailor, likes to golf, and enjoys competing in marathons.
