InfoPeter Vander Zaag, local farmer and international agricultural scientist, has accepted the candidacy for the Christian Heritage Party of Canada (CHP) in Simcoe-Grey Riding in the next federal election.

Dr. Peter Vander Zaag, getting his hands dirty. Dr. Vander Zaag was born and raised in Alliston. After his university education he spent 20 years helping farmers, scientists and governments with food production related issues. He has traveled extensively and worked in 60 countries throughout the world.

Dr. Vander Zaag has served on numerous organizations including the board of the Alliston Community Christian School (chairman for 6 years), the executive board of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (5 years), the executive board of Ag CARE (4 years), the Loaves and Fishes Growing Project of South Simcoe for the Canada Food Grains Bank (coordinator for 7 years). Peter also servers on the board of the Simcoe district farmer's co-op, and the Alliston Christian Reformed church.

Dr. Peter Vander Zaag, CFGB. Why am I a candidate for the CHP and not for the CPC or the Liberals? When you are an MP for a major party, you are bound to speak the party-line, and speeches must be pre-approved by party leaders. For example, I recently met Larry Spencer, a former CPC MP, who spoke his personal convictions on an issue, and was immediatly kicked out of the party. If I ran for a major party I would very likely be elected, but I wouldn't be free to speak my conscience. The CHP gives me the freedom to speak because their basic principles are in harmony with mine.

The CHP's well thought out policies attracted Peter's attention and drew him into the party. As the candidate for Simcoe-Grey, he wants to articulate the CHP platform. There is an alternative for those who are looking for a party that will express their voice in Ottawa.
