InfoLui Temelkovski was first elected in 2004 as the Member of Parliament for the newly-created riding of Oak Ridges-Markham. He was re-elected for a second term on January 23rd, 2006.

Lui serves as Canada’s first Macedonian MP. His family immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s, when Lui was only 13. His family did not speak either official language, but his parents became hard working Canadians whose sole aim was to give their children an opportunity to succeed in a new country.

Like so many immigrants in Oak Ridges-Markham, Lui Temelkovski is proud to call Canada home. It accepted him, helped him, and provided him with numerous opportunities to succeed. He was born in Brajcino, Macedonia, where there was no running water, electricity or cars, and only a few bicycles.

Lui received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from McMaster University. He later built a successful career in the financial services industry. He started with Freedom 55 Financial in 1984 as a sales advisor and progressed towards a position as Director of Advisor Development. He is a member of the Markham Board of Trade.

Pierre Trudeau’s multicultural outlook has served as an inspiration to Lui. He believes very much in the Canadian mosaic and first served as mayor and later as chairman to the Toronto Caravan Festivals. He also plays an active role in his church community and was the president of its founding committee.

Lui served on the Ontario Government’s advisory council on multiculturalism and citizenship. In 2002, he received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for his significant contributions to better his society. He is fluent in Italian, Macedonian and English. His next linguistic goal is to improve his French.

Although the 38th Parliament only lasted 17 months, Lui was very active. He was a Co-Chair of the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament; a member of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration; he established the Canada-Macedonia InterParliamentary Friendship Group; he is Chair of the Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Group and Chair of the Canada-Philippine Friendship Group.

So far, the 39th Parliament finds Lui serving as Associate Critic for Public Works and Government Services. He is also a Member of the Standing Committee on International Trade. He is also looking forward to resuming his work on the Parliamentary and Friendship groups.

Lui is married to Loretta, a teaching assistant at Brother Andre High School. They have four children: Alex, Tanya, Sandra and Christian. His family has lived in Markham since 1983.
