| Info | Karl Hann was born and raised in Romania. He finished high school, served in the army, then turned to agriculture. In 1979, at age 23, he and a friend decided to seek freedom and democracy in the west. After a few years in Germany, Canada seemed a more attractive place to farm. Since 1986 Abbotsford has been Karl's home, where he is married and presently working on an organic farm.
With a focus no longer simply on food production, Karl has learned much about politics in agriculture, changes in attitude, international trade, social and environmental impact from government approved policies, injustices to whole societies, and movements that have arisen to deal with these issues.
"I want change, and no new promises until we have dealt with the outstanding ones," Karl states. "The progress we have made so far is rather unimpressive."
Karl believes that all the news we hear and read points to a citizenry badly represented despite all the rhetoric. Seventy-five years ago Sir Lewis Namier wrote about parliament (in Britain), something which still holds true today in most governments around the world:
"Men went there to make a figure, and no more dreamt of a seat in the House in order to benefit humanity than a child dreams of a birthday cake that others may eat it."
