Info | Born in Louisiana, and says she grew up sharecropping with poor kin though she got to and through Grambling easily enough and earned the popular social-work degree. A counselor to the miserable in Camden, she's married to a sometime lawman/funeralizer who's been a frustrated office-seeker his own self. She had four terms in the state legislature in the 1990s, was a strong voice therein for the oppressed liberal contingent, could frighten and shame the House 'necks with her forensic talent but couldn't foil them or much slow them down. She got good press a couple of terms, was adjudged a possible 'nother Joycelyn Elders shaping up, but bumped up against the Peter Principle somewhere along the way. She was inspired by looming term limits to take a shot at Dickey and Congress two years ago, when she was the Democratic nominee. She held her own with him in public exchanges, but turned out to be not so great a hand at the brutal door-to-door that the farflung Fourth District demands of its high aspirants. Doesn't seem to be offering much different from last time, continuing to point out that she's the woman and the African American in the race, as if that might ought to be enough. Married, two sons.
