InfoLong time NDP activist Michael Marshall is once again placing his name before the voters of Dartmouth Nova Scotia...but this time for the GREEN Party.

Marshall describes his new party affliation "as being neither center left nor center right but rather Center Green."

Mr. Marshall, a one time member of the NS NDP Executive, says he left the NDP after 33 years because he found their policies "too attractive" (!)
"They attract the drivers of union-made SUVs by promising cheap "Made In Canada" gas prices and then they attract environmentalist voters by offering to clean up gas-polluted air."
"The NDP, says Marshall,"has an attractive policy for every segment of the broadly defined Center Left but once in power, I think they will find it very hard to reconcile these conflicting promises."

Marshall points to current revelations that the British Labour government covered up allegations of British torture against civilian Iraqis.
"The NDP calls the Labour Party 'their mother party' and have formal affliation with it.Marshall, himself a former member of the Labour Party, believes Jack Layton should now disavow this formal affliation, if he wants to remain consistent with his own principles.
"Like the NDP, the Labour Party has both attractive high moral principles --- and an attractive 'cheap gas' policy."
Marshall says,"torn between the two, Labour in the end sent the troops into Iraq and then covered up evidence for months that its troops were torturing Iraqis."

"By contrast, it was the GREEN foreign minister of Germany who led the countries who urged caution on the invasion of Iraq."

"That's the sort of European politician Jim Harris is associated with when HE goes to Europe."

"Jim won't sell off the GREEN's high principles just to chase the chimera of 1950s style cheap oil."

Marshall describes Jim Harris, the leader of the federal GREENS, as a former PC who discovered he was not just fiscally conservative but ecologically conservative too.
"We're a Throwaway Society",says Marshall,"one that will throwaway anything - taxpayers' money, plants and animals, communities, ex-employees - in the name of Progress."
"By contrast, Jim Harris and the GREENS are opposed to that - they're frugal and cautious and skeptical of human ability to affect large scale change without making things worse." "GREENS are in favor of making this a better world for all living things, but they move that way with caution and humility."
