Besides his 19-year career at SRS Hamby is also a local businessman, owning a convenience store, pizza parlor, and boat dock manufacturing concern. He is a longtime volunteer in his community, including 12 years with the Modoc Volunteer Fire Department and eight years of prison ministry at McCormick Correctional Institution. Westinghouse chose him among all its SRS employees for its prestigious Community Service Award in 2000.
Hamby was born and lived in Aiken County until the age of 7, when his family moved to Edgefield County. He is a graduate of Clemson University, and is single.
