Dr. Manmohan Singh is India's first Prime Minister of the Sikh religion. When elected in May of 2004, he was a resident of Khoti Bazaar in Amristar, India. At the time, he was the most senior member of the Indian Congress Party in the upper house of parliament and already had the experience as India's Minister of Finance from 1991 to 1996. He was also a former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
