Drew University President Thomas H. Kean is a former two-term New Jersey Governor and served 10 years in the New Jersey General Assembly, including two terms as the Speaker of the Assembly. He delivered the Keynote speech at the 1988 Republican National Convention and was rated by Newsweek as one of the nation's most effective Governors. Before serving elective office, Kean was a teacher, businessman, and ran a camp for underprivileged children. During his tenure as President of Drew, the university has expanded and improved its international and off-campus study programs, added new faculty in African, Asian, Russian, and Islamic studies, constructed a $12 million forum and athletic center, and doubled its endowment. He is the author of The Politics of Inclusion, published in 1988. President Kean teaches an upper level seminar titled "Governing a State."
On the Personal Side
President Kean enjoys opera, reading (histories), and tennis. He rarely misses a performance of the Drew University Dramatic Society and is advisor to Drew's medieval club, That Medieval Thing. President Kean and his wife live in Far Hills, New Jersey. They have twin sons and a daughter. He is also a New York Jets fan.
Kean most recently served on the 911 Commission, receiving widespread acclaim for his bi-partisan, even handed approach to finding the truth.
