Info Jay Wolfe was born April 5, 1955, in Parkersburg, WV. He grew up in his family's home on DuPont Road and attended Blennerhassett Elementary School and Franklin Junior High School. In 1965, his father and mother, Donald and Emogene Wolfe, started a recreational vehicle business in Parkersburg, Wolfe Camper Sales. Growing up, Jay worked in the family RV business. Jay's mother passed away in 1998 after suffering with alzheimer's disease. He graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1973 where he met Mollie Butler, his high school sweetheart who later became Mollie Wolfe. Jay and Mollie have been married 26 years and have 4 children; Katie age 21, Nathan age 20, Adam age 17 and Abigail age 12.

Jay attended Marshall University for three years then graduated from Glenville State College in 1977 with a degree in Business Management. After college, Jay went to work as an agent for Nationwide Insurance and later was promoted into management. Mollie was a public school teacher and has taught elementary students in Lincoln County and Wood County. As a manager for Nationwide, Jay's family moved to Elkins then to Bridgeport. Jay helped to build two successful motels. In 1987, Jay bought an independent insurance agency in Weston. In 1990, he merged his insurance agency with his current partner, Charles Furner, and formed the Wolfe-Furner Insurance Agency.

In 1986, Jay ran for the WV State Senate against a 16 year incumbent Democrat and won with a surprising victory having never before run for office. At the age of 32, Jay entered the WV State Senate where he remained committed to keeping his campaign promises and serving his constituents. In 1988, the republican senatorial committee recruited Jay in an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate.
