1. Qualifications. What qualifications and experience do you have that would make you an effective state treasurer?
Managing large budgets while working for the State of Utah and managing apartments and property for thirty years.
2. Responsibilities. The public lacks a clear understanding of the duties of the office of state treasurer. What do you believe are the state treasurer’s major responsibilities?
Overseeing state budget policies; hiring responsible fiduciary personnel; setting up checks and balances which protect public resources and processes.
3. Goals. In what ways would you work to maintain Utah’s high bond rating?
Utah is required to balance its budget. Staying out of debt is one essential way to maintain our high bond rating. It is also important that we maintain strong reserves. The pressure to dip into our reserves (rainy day fund) is strong. One of the treasurer’s responsibilities is to encourage responsible tax policies and hold reserves sacred.
