InfoHello, I'm Mike Mangan, Independent candidate for Governor of Wisconsin. I'd like to talk to you about three important issues in this campaign. The first is opening the doors of democracy. As a $500 Independent candidate, I'm sure you're not hearing about Mike Mangan for Governor in the media or on lawn signs. But the reason is because the debates are not being opened up to all the candidates. And my campaign is just as much about opening the doors of democracy so that all the voices get heard, as it is about the other campaign issues. The biggest campaign issue that I'm running for is the McCallum "King Kong" budget deficit. As many of you realize, the state is in a very serious fiscal crisis-- a $1.2 billion budget deficit, which is projected to grow to the area of two to three billion dollars when the next governor takes place. I have a plan for solving McCallum's King Kong budget deficit. And I call it the "Guerrilla Attack on State Spending." Now, the Guerrilla Attack on State Spending is actually a program basically designed to cut government spending by up to 30 percent in some departments. The only way to address a budget deficit in Wisconsin is either number one, to raise taxes; or cut government spending. My campaign strategy of attacking government spending is based upon slicing government spending in certain areas, various departments. Number one: Department of Administration; Department of Corrections; and Department of Transportation. Now, whenever you cut budgets, generally, it's most painful for the people on the bottom. I have a budget-cutting proposal that would start at the top. Basically, a top-down, budget-slicing campaign pledge to slice the Governor's budget, his personal budget from $5 million to $3.5 million, as well as slashing the Lt. Governor's office from $3 million to even eliminating it. I think the lieutenant governor is a deadwood position. And I'm sure a lot of people probably wonder what the lieutenant governor does, in addition to who the lieutenant governor is. I also have an energy plan, which I think would address Wisconsin's fiscal crisis. I call it, "Powering a Better Future." And it's an energy plan based on, not only slashing state government's energy budgets by 30 percent, but also statewide. We import, in Wisconsin, $6 billion worth of fossil fuels. That's oil, coal, natural gas and all the other fuels that Wisconsin uses. By reducing energy 30 percent, we would free up $2 billion in our state economy. This $2 billion could then be used to fund other areas, such as the fiscal crisis, healthcare, education or any other campaign strategy, or any other campaign priority that we might have in Wisconsin. I believe that we need to open up the doors of democracy so that we have "More Voices for More Choices." Now, people haven't been hearing about my candidacy or my campaign ideas. But that's not necessarily my fault. Running on $500 isn't particularly a campaign that gets a lot of media attention. But I don't think the money should be the issue. I think all candidates, regardless of whether they're million-dollar budgets, two-party candidates, all voices in this campaign should be heard. That's why my campaign, to open the doors of democracy, is just as important as to whether I get elected or not. In fact, it's more important. I'm not expecting to get elected on a $500 campaign pledge. But I want the debate to be opened up so that in the future, some candidate, perhaps myself or other candidates who are third party or independent candidates will stand a chance of getting elected in Wisconsin. In summary, I would like to ask you to vote on November 5 for Mike Mangan, Independent candidate for Governor. Honesty, integrity and hard-working. And actually, the only "Candidate with Appeal." So, I ask for your vote on November 5, if you're interested in opening the doors of democracy, as well as giving the underdog a voice in the campaign issues of Wisconsin. And if we open those doors, I think Wisconsin will be a better state, and we will all be better citizens for it. Thank you.
