Rep. Steve Gaw, a Democrat, represents Randolph County and parts of Howard, Chariton and Boone counties (District 22) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
A former Moberly city prosecutor, Rep. Gaw is an attorney and a partner in the law firm Schirmer, Suter and Gaw. He is a member of the following organizations: Missouri Democratic Party; board of directors, Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce; former vice president of the Governmental Affairs Council; Huntsville Horse Show Committee; board of directors, Moberly Chapter American Diabetes Society; Missouri Bar Association; Westsiders Gospel Quartet; Moberly Rotary Club; KIDS COUNT Advisory Committee; and the American Saddle Horse Association. Rep. Gaw attends the West Park United Methodist Church.
Rep. Gaw has sponsored laws regarding child support, the establishment of paternity, sex offender registration, the establishment of scholarships for active duty members of the National Guard, juvenile justice, elk breeding, small claims court, frivolous inmate lawsuits, non-probate transfers, water pollution control bonds, foster care, and administrative rules revision.
Rep. Gaw graduated summa cum laude from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in 1978 with a bachelor of science in physics and received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1981.
In 1995, Rep. Gaw received the prestigious Charles Dick Medal of Merit from the National Guard Association of the United States and the Missouri Bar Award for Legislative Service. He was also chosen for Who's Who in America in both 1994 and 1995 and was named an Outstanding Young Man of America three times.
