InfoCongressman Kurt Schrader (Oregon’s 5th District) was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008. He has been a public servant for over 3 decades. Congressman Schrader became a member of the Canby Planning Commission in 1981 where he served until 1996 when he was elected to the Oregon State House of Representatives. In the Oregon House he served as a member of the Joint Ways & Means Committee. In 2001, Congressman Schrader was one of 5 legislators asked by their peers to guide Oregon through the worst budget crisis since the depression. In 2003, he was elected to the Oregon State Senate and was immediately appointed to chair the Joint Ways & Means Committee. He continued to serve in that capacity until he was elected to Congress.

Congressman Schrader is a veterinarian and farmer who lives with his wife Martha on Three Rivers Farm in Canby where they grew and sold organic fruit and vegetables. Before being elected to Congress, he owned and managed the Clackamas County Veterinary clinic in Oregon City. Congressman Schrader still maintains his veterinary license. The clinic currently treats companion animals (dogs and cats).
