InfoBill Fuller has been looking out for the people of Alabama for over 20 years.

Bill was a five term state legislator representing Chambers and Lee counties. First elected in 1983 as an independent, he was elected four times as a Democrat. Bill served as the chairman of the Alabama House Ways and Means Committee from 1994 to 1998 and as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 1999 to 2000.

Fuller successfully sponsored the original funding bill to create the Alabama Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIPs) which currently provides health insurance and critical care to 150,000 low-income children throughout Alabama, and is recognized as one of the country's best child health programs.

In July of 2000, then Gov. Don Siegelman appointed Bill to the cabinet level post of commissioner of the Alabama Department of Human Resources. DHR, the largest state agency with a $1 billion operating budget, serves more than 800,000 children, families and seniors.

As DHR commissioner, Bill was the chief officer in charge of protecting Alabama's seniors and children from abuse and neglect. He worked to bolster protection of the infirm elderly, and expanded efforts to make sure children were safe in daycare and in foster homes. Bill was only one of two cabinet members held over after Republican Bob Riley assumed the governor's office in 2003, and served until December of last year.

Bill describes himself as a deeply conservative Democrat and is in contact with the Blue Dog Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives in anticipation of joining their ranks.

Fuller has been a lay leader at the LaFayette First United Methodist Church for 20 years and has applied to Beeson Divinity School of Samford University and expects to begin part-time studies later this year.
