Info | Rhode Island has always been home to John. A 1982 graduate of Scituate Jr. Sr. High School, John attended the University of Rhode Island and earned a BS in Business Administration. While at URI, John took a year off and enlisted in the Rhode Island Army National Guard as a weapons armorer assigned to the 1/126 Aviation Battalion. For six years John served Rhode Island rising to the rank of Supply Sergeant and earning the distinguished Army Achievement medal.
A career in real estate led to John's appointment as the West Warwick Tax Assessor in 1990. John married Susan Bottone of Barrington in October of 1992. An early 1993 change of administration saw John leave West Warwick and be appointed the Bristol Tax Assessor. As a member of the Bristol financial team, John assisted Bristol in reorganizing their financial departments and procedures. Soon, Bristol's operating deficit became a healthy surplus, including several bond rating increases. New tax exemption laws were written and the town's first revaluation in twelve years was completed.
John applied to Roger Williams University School of Law's evening division: balancing a family, full-time job and law school. John then became the first student accepted in the Dual-Degree program offered jointly between Roger Williams Law and the University of Rhode Island. Accelerating his studies, John graduated with his Juris Doctor and Master of Community Planning degrees in May 1999.
Shortly thereafter, John left Bristol and became a full-time stay-at-home dad for his two children. John sat for, and passed the Rhode Island Bar in February 2000. In June 2000, John was appointed as the West Greenwich Town Planner. Beyond updating many of West Greenwich's land use laws, John was the force behind the construction of West Greenwich's only town playground. The West Greenwich Play Yard became the most handicap accessible playground in Rhode Island and a source of pride for local residents.
Last year John left West Greenwich to open his law practice and further develop his consulting business. Today John is the small business owner of Property Assessors, LLC: Rhode Island's only property tax consulting firm. John represents businesses and residents before local boards and commissions for land use, zoning and property tax matters. John is in his eleventh year as an instructor for the Rhode Island Association of Realtors, is a former Adjunct Professor of Law at Johnson & Wales University, and, an Eagle Scout.
