Info I have had an abiding interest in politics all my life. I'm sure I can trace it to the period just after the killings at Kent State, for this was a time of upheaval in my household. I was about twelve, my father was a Colonel in the Air Force and my older brother was an ROTC officer at Notre Dame. The day after the four students were shot by National Guardsmen, my brother was ordered to drill his squad on campus, an act that was supposed to be a show of force. My brother refused the order, believing that to do so would have put his charges and the general student body in danger. He was soon to not only resign his commission but to also seek and obtain conscientious objector status.

This made me witness to some deeply philosophical and political debates. Ultimately, my father had the character to support his son's convictions. A father who would join, some ten years later after retirement, his two sons on the first leg of the "Continental Walk for Disarmament & Social Justice," one of my earliest forays into things political.

In 1976, I went door-to-door for tenants' rights issues with the Citizen's Action League in San Francisco, this being my very first activity at age 18. From that time forward, I have engaged in political activity, almost exclusively with non-profit citizen's groups, at intervals throughout my life.

The most important phase of my learning, with regard to grassroots organizing and electoral campaign experience, came from my work with the Citizens' Labor & Energy Coalition in 1984-85. Work within this network of dynamic groups brought me in contact with many wonderful and inspiring people in places like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Sacramento and Washington, D.C. (where I was tutored by Prof. Murray Fischel, who designed the first MA program in the country for campaign management).

My issue concentration has been the environment, working with the League of Conservation Voters and Citizens for a Better Environment in Ca. and the Environmental Planning Lobby and the New York Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides , in N.Y.

My wife Faye and I have lived in Las Vegas for over seven years, during which time my political activity has been limited to a year as Political Director of Local 135, the construction union of which I am a Journeyman Mechanic member. I have had additional life experiences as a job placement counselor, computer operator, restaurant manager and in contract preparation and review. I attended Marist College and Albany Business College (from which I secured a position in my field of study prior to graduation).

Although I have organized, directed and managed many campaigns in concert with others in the past, this one will be different in many respects. I believe I have insights that can take a grassroots effort to heights that it doesn't seem anyone, besides myself, deems possible. I intend to provide the leadership, the faith, the resolve, to go where Bobby Kennedy suggested when he said "Some men see things as they are and ask why, I dream things that never were, and ask why not?"
