Info | Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson currently represents the Ward F residents on the City Council for the city of Jersey City, New Jersey. Jermaine is an innovative leader who works in a bipartisan manner to get results for his constituents. He is a lifelong resident of Ward F and his family roots date more than three generations.
In addition to servicing the citizens of his district, Jermaine is a local business owner of the Light Rail Café; a neighborhood establishment where everybody knows your name. As a small business owner, Jermaine has a first-hand understanding of what it takes to make a business-friendly environment. His business success and acumen have been important in shaping his leadership style as a competent and efficient consensus builder.
Prior to his City Council appointment on January 21, 2017, Mr. Robinson proudly served as Committeeman for the 13th District of Ward F since 2015. He is most clearly defined by his unrelenting drive to serve his community.
Before holding elected office, Jermaine received numerous recognitions by local non-profit organizations such as his 2013 Community Service Award from the NAACP Jersey City Branch for the work to advance the common positive pursuit of those living in his ward. In addition, Jermaine is a Wall of Fame Honoree at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center in recognition of his actions of making ward F his top priority.
As the former Property Manager for the Martin Luther King Hub, current Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board Member and licensed Real Estate Agent, Jermaine brings a strong knowledge of contract negotiations. He is a key asset to the council team with his expertise in budget development and forecasting in addition to analysis of property values and market trends.
Mr. Robinson introduced the Affordable Housing Compliance Ordinance with Councilman-At-Large Daniel Rivera within his first three months on the City Council. The policy was designed to prioritize Jersey City residents by establishing a formula to strategize marketing in the six most commonly spoken languages in the city. It requires that all online applications are granted first choice to Jersey City residents through a waiting list process along with a monitoring system that will be overseen by the Office of Abatement Compliance.
Jermaine's background places him in a unique position to understand the issues facing Jersey City.
