Family
Paul is a 2nd generation American whose family immigrated to the United States as whaling captains. His mother worked and managed her family’s plant nursery, a woman-owned small business. Being multi-lingual, she was also the senior loan department representative tasked working with immigrants at a major New England bank branch. His brother is an officer in the fire service and previous member of the FEMA Region 1 Urban Search and Rescue. He and his team immediately deployed and entered the World Trade Center site during the attacks of 9/11. Paul’s late-father was a Korean War era Army Ranger and captained the Army's European soccer squad. He taught US & World history for 37 years in public and parochial schools, served as Commander in the VFW, DAV, and American Legion, and was inducted into the Bridgewater State College Athletic Hall-of-Fame. Growing up, Paul was active in Scouting and spent summers working the woodlot and fields at the Shaker Property for LaSalette Fathers on Lake Mascoma in Enfield, NH. While there he was taught, experienced, and developed a deep appreciation for the pragmatic and industrious nature of the Shaker traditions.

Journey
Paul was a Norwich University cadet before joining the military and earning his Green Beret at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center (Special Forces). He was both an NCO and commissioned officer. He attended Harvard, paying his tuition using both the GI Bill and while working as a supervisor in a janitorial program for at-risk, inner-city youth in Boston. Following this, Paul was selected to attend the Army Physician Assistant Program where he earned a second degree from the University of Texas and completed the Army School of Aviation Medicine, Flight Surgeon Program. He went on to work for various government agency teams in the Balkans and Kosovo developing threat assessments, and managing operational support for intelligence/linguistic units deployed with Special Forces Groups during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

District 1
Returning to the Granite State, he attended the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network (DEN) Course, and pursued a Lean Six Sigma Certification at Thayer School of Engineering. Obtaining ISO Internal and Lead Auditor credentials, he worked for a startup in the Dartmouth Regional Technology Center, utilizing quality management methodologies to implement protocol-based continuity of healthcare designs and delivery. Later, Paul applied these skill sets as the Associate Director of Clinical Education, Franklin Pierce University. He led the Master of Physician Assistant Studies curriculum and hospital rotations in the clinical year, and was elected to serve on the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee. He continues to consult regionally with stakeholders in defense programs for all-hazards incident command, including chemical/biological attacks, pandemic flu, and campus shootings. Paul stewards the certified tree farm he started on Mt. Cube and at various times been elected to the Select Board, Budget Committee, and Planning Board in the Town of Orford.
