| Info | A life-long Illinois resident, Rhys Read graduated from Northwestern University in 1976, at the age of 19. Rhys then obtained his Masters of Business Administration from DePaul University in 1979. Rhys is a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois.
Rhys has over 25 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, and financial management. Rhys has worked in both public accounting and in private industry. He is currently controller for the Peer Bearing Group of Companies, headquartered in Waukegan, Illinois. Rhys has served on an Illinois CPA Society advisory Tax Committee, educating and informing other Illinois CPAs in tax law changes. Rhys has conducted seminars on tax issues, and has published articles in various publications on tax, accounting, and budgeting topics.
Rhys has been elected for two consecutive years as a trustee of the Des Plaines Public Library. In his first full year in the finance committee, Rhys helped the library to submit their first budget with no (0.00%) tax increase. This was after several years of double digit percentage increases in the operating budget. Rhys is also a member of the Mount Prospect Park District Theatre Society, as well as numerous other professional, civic, and advocacy organizations. He has taught/coached chess to grade school students, including for the National Champion Emerson Middle School (Park Ridge) chess team (2000).
Rhys has been married to Alma for 12 years. They are legal guardians to their niece Nelly and nephew John, age 10 and 8. They currently reside in Des Plaines.
