InfoI wasn’t born in Wisconsin but I’ve lived here almost all of my life. I grew up in the country, went to a small, rural school in a town with a population of 1,000 & had a class of around 30 people. (Yes a total class size of 30 students!) My dad was in the Air Force, then Air Guard and worked at Ft McCoy. My mom was a stay at home mom until my youngest sister went to school. Then she worked a full time job while being on the school board, the board of our local Girl Scout council, I don’t even know what else. She put herself through college to get her degree and then went back to get her master’s in education so she could make a difference.

My parents were amazing role models and taught me so much about life; most of all to never shy away from a challenge, to fight for my beliefs and goals and to be a proud and engaged citizen. Because of this strong foundation, I was able to put myself through UW-Madison with scholarships, student loans and by working 20-30hrs/wk. After graduation I worked in the travel industry long enough to learn the ropes, take notes and make beneficial connections so that I could open my own tour company specializing in customized tours.

Unfortunately I am also not a stranger to personal and economic difficulties. When the world’s economy crashed in 2009 the travel industry, along with so many other industries, came to a screeching halt. I officially closed my doors in late 2009 and took a management position at the big box store where I had been working part-time, while I had my own business, in order to have health insurance. Not too long after that, I was competing in a race and broke my leg in 13 places! Thank goodness for short term disability insurance.

Today I work as an organic farmer and educator. Each March, a new group of students come to East Troy, full of energy and optimism, to learn organic farming and sustainability.
