born in Albany, Linn County, Oreg., April 11, 1893; moved to Kirkland, Wash., in 1904; attended the public schools; graduated from the University of Washington at Seattle in 1915 and served as graduate manager of athletics until 1917; during the First World War was called into Federal service in August 1917 with the Washington National Guard; served overseas for ten months with the Forty-eighth Coast Artillery Corps, and discharged as a captain in June 1919; officer and president of loan companies in Seattle, 1920-1934; appraiser with the Home Owners Loan Corporation, the Home Loan Bank Board, and Chief of the Savings and Loan Division of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board 1934-1937; moved to San Mateo, Calif., in 1937; executive vice president of Citizens Federal Savings & Loan Association in San Francisco 1937-1952; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third and to the seven succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1953, until his death in Washington, D.C., on June 20, 1967; interment in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, Calif.
