InfoServing the 23rd District in the California State Assembly is deeply personal. I was fortunate to grow up in Palo Alto, attend excellent public schools with fantastic teachers, live in a safe community and, on the many times I hurt myself as a rambunctious kid, have access to world class healthcare.

However, growing up here in the 80s and 90s, it was also clear to me how many of my friends, classmates, and soccer teammates who lived in nearby communities did not get the same opportunities I had because of societal inequities and injustices that built up over decades.

That's why, after living all over the country for college, work, and law school, I moved back home to continue my career in public service. I was elected to the Palo Alto City Council, where I led the effort to increase the minimum wage for struggling workers, repair the city’s crumbling roads, and build two new fire stations and a new public safety building.

In 2016, I was elected to represent you in the State Assembly, where I’ve worked tirelessly to deliver for our communities.

When the COVID pandemic hit, I immediately led the passage of permanent vote-by-mail in California so that no Californian had to risk their life to participate in our democracy. I wrote the law to make California the first state in the nation to ban the sale of gas-powered leaf blowers and lawnmowers to reduce emissions of climate changing pollutants, protect worker health, and reduce noise pollution in our neighborhoods. And with abortion rights under attack, I’ve fought to protect and expand the right to choose here in California, earning a lifetime 100% voting record from Planned Parenthood.

Too many students grow up in the shadow of some of the world’s most successful tech companies, but go to schools that don’t teach them the skills they need to one day work at those companies. That’s why I led the effort to create a statewide Computer Science Coordinator at the Department of Education, and I will not stop until every high school student in California has access to computer science education.

We can no longer kick the can down the road on our housing and homelessness crisis. Thousands of our neighbors and millions of Californians struggle every day with the astronomical cost of housing, including teachers, nurses, and other essential workers. That’s why I’ve written bills to reduce red tape and build more affordable housing, and I have supported efforts to build more housing for working class families in California.

As your Assemblymember, I’ve always led with my progressive values. I’ve authored bills to establish a first-in-the-nation firearm violence prevention training program for physicians; provide suicide prevention training for middle and high school students and staff; and create a Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights.

I’m just getting started. I hope you’ll join me.
