Prior to founding GRG, Hunter was affiliated with The Flannery Group, a lobbying firm based in San Diego, California. Her experience in state government led her to the field of registered lobbying and consulting on government related issues. After serving three years in the California State Assembly, Hunter served for 11 years as a gubernatorial appointee.

Hunter is a registered nurse and a recognized leader in the health care industry. She was actively involved in the American Nurses Association and was elected to several leadership roles. Concurrent with her work at GRG, Hunter currently serves as the executive director of the American Nurses Association of California.

Hunter has a bachelor's degree from the University of San Diego and a master's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
