InfoHeidi von Szeliski is the Senior Partner with Decision Research, one of the largest opinion research firms in San Diego. For the past 13 years, Heidi has headed up the San Diego office while directing the growth of the firm into a nationally recognized multi-million dollar company.

Throughout her professional career, Heidi has blended her lifelong progressive values with activist leadership. At the University of California San Diego (UCSD), while completing her BA in Political Science, Heidi worked as an educational administrator, eventually becoming the Offices and Budget Manager for seven Undergraduate Departments. At UCSD, she was also honored with the most prestigious award granted by the University of California, the Regents' Scholarship, enabling her to continue her studies as she cared for her then 3-year old son. Heidi was also elected by the faculty and staff to serve as the President of the UCSD Women's Caucus. Her tenure resulted in important advances for issues such as childcare, sexual harassment policies and the staffing of the comprehensive Women's Resource Center.

After joining Decision Research in 1990, Heidi rose quickly through the ranks and was instrumental in guiding the firm's commitment to taking on the toughest policy and ballot measure campaigns and precedent-setting candidate races. The result has been to help elect Democrats throughout California and the nation, including electing the first openly gay members of the California State Legislature and the Los Angeles City Council, and African-American candidates in majority white communities. Heidi's extensive work on education policy for the nation's largest teachers' association (California Teachers Association) has helped thousands of local teachers advocate for stronger public schools in over 60 local campaigns.

In her successful small business, Heidi has been on the front lines every day actively working for policies and practical solutions that promote Democratic values. Through her job, Heidi has continued to pursue her lifelong personal and professional commitments: to promote responsible and fair economic policies that benefit working families; end gun violence; improve public education for our nation's children to enable them to be successful in college or career; increase access to affordable, quality health care; protect a woman's right to choose with respect to reproductive rights; safeguard the environment; and promote human rights.

A 25-year San Diego resident, Heidi's home and business are located downtown, in the 76th Assembly District. Her son, Ryan, is a recent graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
