Nominated as the Vegetarian Party candidate for President in 1952; developed a plan to wait in the wings at the Democratic National Convention of 1952 in case they chose to nominate him as the Democratic presidential nominee. NYT 4/4/1952

Withdrew and ran instead as the nominee of the American Rally Party. NYT 11/3/1952

Nominated for US Vice President at the 1955 Prohibition National Convention but withdrew from the race afterwards.

Attended a meeting of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Un-American Activities in Los Angeles and was escorted out when he stated that the proceedings were a disgrace to the military and to the nation.
