Mr. Gessner is a native of Duluth, Minnesota. He was educated in the public school system K-12, attended the Universities of Wisconsin (Madison) and Minnesota (Minneapolis) graduating from the latter in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science- Accounting degree. Don is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Healthcare Business Consultant. Having participated in R.O.T.C. at both universities, and having achieved the honor of Distinguished Military Graduate, Don was commissioned second lieutenant, U.S. Army Reserve, Medical Service Corp. He served on active duty from June 1963 to March 1964 at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX and at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO. He completed his six-year military obligation in the U.S. Army Reserves, Duluth, MN. He has an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. Don is a Veteran.

After his tour of military duty in Colorado Springs he practiced as a CPA in Duluth, Minnesota from 1964 to 1973 specializing in taxation and litigation support. Concurrently, he was President of Duluth Business University, Inc. a private business college. Mr. Gessner was appointed by Governor Harold Levander (R-MN) a member of the Minnesota Advisory Council on Vocational Education in 1968, and re-appointed by Governor Wendell Anderson (D-MN) in 1970. In 1970 he was elected to the Board of Education, Independent School District #709, Duluth, Minnesota, where he served as it Treasurer during his two-year term.

In 1973 Mr. Gessner relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he practiced as a healthcare consultant for nineteen years. In 1990 his colleagues and peers elected him to the office of National President of the Society of Professional Business Consultants, now reorganized as the National Association of Healthcare Consultants. Mr. Gessner is currently a Charter and Life Member of the Association. He met his wife, Stephanie, also from Minnesota, in 1976 and they were married in 1977. Don has three children and three grandchildren.

In 1992 he sold his consulting practice in Fort Lauderdale. He and Stephanie relocated to Park City, Utah. In 1993 Governor Michael O. Leavitt named Mr. Gessner as Co-chair of the Utah Health Policy Commission, Technical Committee. In 1994 he was appointed to Chair the Commission�s Fiscal Equity Committee which included medical savings accounts. Mr Gessner served as an alternate member of the Commission. From 1993 to 1996 he was retained by Columbia HCA /St. Mark�s Hospital to advise on various managed care arrangements.

Don and Stephanie moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1997 to assist a local consulting firm that had lost several partners in a common disaster. After fulfilling a two-year commitment, they made the decision to return to Florida where each had spent most of their adult lives. Don and Stephanie make their home in Lecanto.
