InfoBill Hightower is a conservative, and a local small business owner running for Alabama Senate Seat 35 in a run-off election to be held March 12th, 2013.

He is married to Susan Binegar Hightower, from Grand Bay. He and Susan have three children; Will (26), Haven (22), and Ben (18).

Bill originally moved to Mobile in 1968, with his mom and dad, when his father, Billy M. Hightower M.D., established one of the first Open Heart Surgery Centers on the gulf coast at Mobile General Hospital (Now University of South Alabama Medical Center).

Bill attended E.R. Dickson Elementary School, Sydney Phillips Middle School, and Murphy High School, and was active in sports, and played the trumpet; still a hobby today. After graduating high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Binegar, from Grand Bay. Susan is also a small business owner in Mobile owning one of the largest children’s consignment businesses in Mobile, called Wee-Exchange, held at the Abba Shrine building twice a year. She also operates a clothing store in Bel-Air Mall called, Little Monkey Toes, and is a realtor with Roberts Brothers Realty.

During his high school summers Bill worked at his grandparent’s farm, cleaned swimming pools, and also worked as a laborer on construction projects.

Bill attended University of South Alabama and graduated with his B.S. in Commercial Banking/Finance, with studies in economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science, London, England. He later went on to receive his M.B.A. at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1990.

After graduating in 1990, Bill worked with Fortune 100 corporations including Emerson Electric, AlliedSignal, Eaton, and a British company, Balfour-Beatty. He was away from Mobile for 15 years, but visited frequently to see family here, and intended to return to Mobile after gaining experience in business. During his time away from Mobile he worked in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Wherever he lived, he observed and noted government policies, which encouraged business growth and family values, and those that didn’t, having it in mind to one-day affect public policy more deeply. He was particularly affected by the socialist policies of Europe that damage individual incentive and business growth, and the lack of private property rights which exist in China.

Bill moved back to Mobile in 2002, following a personal evaluation in light of the 9/11 tragedy, to be closer to family. He is owner of a private practice which focuses on corporate strategic consulting. He works with clients in the U.S., Europe, and China in defining their growth strategy and implementing it through acquisitions and alliances.

His past experience in the decision-making machinery of global corporate offices and legislative involvement makes him uniquely qualified to contribute legislative pro-growth, pro-business strategies to the region. He knows what these job-creating companies are looking for and knows how to encourage them to come to Mobile.

Bill is an Advisory Board Member to Outback America, a Christian organization that holds family camps in Mobile and other cities, a Board Chairman of a local Christian School, a Committee Member of the Mobile Republican Party, and a Counsel Member for Governor Bentley on the Alabama State Health Planning Counsel. Over the years, Bill has been active as:

Board member of Bethany Christian Adoption Services;
Toastmasters International President;
United Way Corporate Chairman;
Promoted the Arts & Community Music programs;
Worked with Peace & Reconciliation Entities in the Middle East & Europe;
Hosted events in association with the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC;
Legislative representative and author of federal legislation.

Bill Hightower believes in Mobile and would appreciate your vote on March 12th in the run-off for Alabama Senate District 35.
