Info | Ben Streusand is a successful entrepreneur who wants to take his pro-business conservative philosophy and put it to work in Washington D.C. for the voters of the 10th Congressional District.
Bens roots in the Houston area run deep. He is a native Houstonian who graduated from Madison High School and went on to receive a B.A. in Political Science from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1979. Bens mother, Sandra, was an English teacher in the Houston Independent School District for 30 years and now teaches at a local community college.
Streusands interest in politics started early. While in college Ben worked on Capitol Hill for his local Congressman and continued working for him after graduation from college. In 1980, Ben moved back to Houston to join the investment-banking firm of Prudential-Bache and then moved to Austin and worked for homebuilder Bill Milburn for several years.
In 1988, Ben founded his mortgage banking company, Home Loan Corporation, with 5 employees. Today his company helps Americans realize their dream of home ownership in 35 branches stretching across 15 states, with a staff of approximately 650 employees.
Ben served as a paid consultant to the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the 90s, assisting with the investigation of white collar financial crimes.
Ben has been active in Republican Party politics serving as a delegate to the senatorial and state conventions. He is a member of Associated Republicans of Texas and is a major contributor and fundraiser for both Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst. Governor Perry appointed Streusand to serve on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission in 2002. Ben is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
Ben helps coach his sons basketball team and contributes to a variety of charitable organizations, including the Jewish Federation for the Righteous, which financially assists Christians throughout the world who helped shelter and save Jews during the Holocaust. Ben, 45, is married to Kathy Streusand, a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and they have two children.
