InfoI was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana where I graduated from Jefferson High School. I attended Ball State University to become a licensed teacher in the areas of elementary education and special education. I also received my Masters degree at Ball State and a second masters degree from IUPUI in Library Science. I currently work as a Library Media Specialist at Crooked Creek Elementary School in the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, Indianapolis. I have taught students at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. My achievements include the following:

• Teacher of the Year Award Winner at two different schools.

• Golden Apple Award Winner.

• A National Board Certified Teacher (1 of only 155 in Indiana)

• Led my school to become a national Blue Ribbon School and an Indiana 4-star School by strengthening the school-wide reading program.

• International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Coordinator and media specialist at Crooked Creek School.

• Helped establish global partnerships and teacher exchanges between Chinese schools and Crooked Creek School.

• President of the Washington Township Education Association, 15 years.

I met my husband of 35 years at Ball State University. We settled in Carmel in 1977. We have two children, Brandon and Phillip. Brandon and his family live in Indio, California. Phillip and his family live in Mt. Airy, Maryland. We spend vacation time traveling coast-to-coast.

I have always been a strong vocal advocate for students and educators. I spend most of my time reviewing educational policy, research, statute, rules, and regulations in the areas of Common Core Standards and assessment development, teacher evaluation, teacher licensing, compensation, general education, special education, instructional practices, student assessment, media services, and literacy.

I am "standing up for education" by running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction to bring some common sense and high quality learning to the classrooms throughout Indiana public schools. I invite you to stand with me.
